Life at Torquay Academy

Torquay Academy is a heavily over-subscribed school located on a beautiful 25 acre campus that boasts world-class teaching, performing arts and sporting facilities.  This video will give you a glimpse into life at TA.

Our students achieve exceptional results at GCSE and A level, outperforming children of a similar academic ability in other schools.  This is due to our exceptional teachers, our well-planned and challenging curriculum, and our high expectations of behaviour.

The extracurricular opportunities at TA rival the top independent schools in England.  Each night hundreds of our girls and boys take part in the widest range of opportunities.

Our sports teams regularly feature in the latter stages of national competitions.

Our Combined Cadet Force (CCF) gives students the opportunity to challenge themselves in ways they could never imagine, from camps and expeditions to flying a plane.  The Adventure Academy enables students to use our kayaks and stand-up paddle boards, go coasteering, or participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Awards and Ten Tors.

Our performing arts offer includes regular musicals and live music performances. Our students have, on more than one occasion, been crowned the national young robotics champions.  Girls and boys have built electric race cars and travel around the UK's top race tracks racing them - we are currently the UK state school champions.  We have taken our race teams on an all-expenses paid trip to the USA on three separate occasions. Every Year 7 student must join one of our clubs.

Our greatest responsibility to our children is for their happiness and wellbeing.  Each year group has its own playground, dining space and canteen.  They are supported by a member of the senior team, a Head of Year, Deputy Head of Year and a Pastoral Leader.

Each week ends with a Fun Friday; break 2 has a fun activity for all of our students to take part in.  Students work hard at Torquay Academy, but there is plenty of space for fun, challenge and enjoyment.
