Year 10 Full Time School

We are having a really successful first week back in the Year 10 Full Time School (for children whose parents are critical workers and vulnerable children). They are in focusing on their core subjects.  They have all been assigned their own desk and equipment and continue their work under the guidance of our teachers and their Pastoral Teams.

We are able to offer places to students who are either:

• Children whose parents are critical workers – they are encouraged to attend, it is no longer necessary for parents of eligible children to keep them at home if they can.
• Students who are classified as vulnerable – there is an expectation for them to attend school every day.

All Day School

It has also been lovely to have welcomed so many children back into our Year 7 – 9 provision.  This week has been about settling back into a routine in school.

From Monday we will be introducing a new timetable where all students will be in lessons with subject teachers rather than completing their home learning in school. Students will be concentrating on English and Mathematics for three days of the week with sports and recreational activities in the afternoons. On the other two days, they will spend time working on Science, completing the Wider World tasks and a mixture of enrichment activities which will include Music, Careers, PSHE, Art, Drama and Ethics.

It will be beneficial for our students if they are able to maintain consistency in their education by attending school each day. For this reason, if your child is eligible and you would like them to attend I will suggest that they attend every day for the benefit of their own learning.

This provision is only for those students who have one or more parents who are critical workers or are defined as vulnerable.

It was lovely to meet our students of the week for Years 7-9 today. Congratulations to Year 7 – Tyler Jay Stirling, Year 8 – Zac Jones and Year 9 – Maddie Hele who are pictured here with their certificates and badges.  We took this picture after Mr Chadwick met all of the students to congratulate them on an amazing week.

Inspiring home learning

Before half term, I had a few wonderful hours as I visited a number of our students to deliver certificates and chocolate bars to our students who have really gone above and beyond with their home learning. Here are some more pictures of students with their certificates.

Fun Donut Friday

As our fun Friday this week, and also a small reward for having such an exceptional week in school, we flooded the school with donuts at break time this morning!  Apologies if anybody tried to buy any donuts from Asda this morning, but I had cleared them out of the stock first thing… It has been wonderful having so many children back in school this week, it is given a real energy to the place again.  The photograph is not a picture of Mr Chadwick with his breaktime snack, it is him delivering the donuts to the classrooms!

Spring clean

We have used the opportunity of having far fewer students in school to make a beautiful campus even more beautiful! Every wall has been painted, but it is the outside of the building that looks transformed. Paving slabs and coping stones have been jet washed, walls have been soft washed gutters have been cleaned and I think the effect is quite remarkable.

Prestigious Summer School Placements

Five of our Year 12 students have been selected for the very competitive and prestigious Sutton Trust Summer Schools at Bristol University.

• Hassan Hussain – Engineering at The University of Bristol
• Sonny Prior –  Engineering at The University of Bristol
• Evie Billing – Engineering at Durham University
• Luke Pethard – Medicine at Cardiff University

Given the ongoing coronavirus situation, there is a chance that the summer school will be online, but they will get a flavour of lectures, seminars, tutorials and whether the subject is right for them.

This is an incredible achievement for each of the students and amazing for us as a school that three students from one establishment have secured places on such competitive courses.  Well done!

Sparx Certificates

During Cycle 3, students have been completing their Sparx maths every day at home along with their Sparx homework. Due to the large amount and high quality of work completed, hundreds of students gained Sparx Level Certificates.

This is a tremendous achievement and the TA Maths Department is very proud of all of the students working so hard at home or in school at the moment. Well done!

UKMT Certificates

On 6th February 2020, select students in Years 9, 10 and 11 sat the UKMT Intermediate Maths Challenge. This is a national competition for students who enjoy maths and problem solving.

It was another successful year for TA students with many achieving Bronze, Silver and Gold certificates and two of our students qualifying for the next round: Jessica Breach in Year 9 and Jake Gamble in Year 11.

We are so proud of all of the students who took part in the challenge and a massive congratulations to the students who qualified for a certificate. Well done!
