Rebecca Wins Modern Championship Cup

Year 7 student, Rebecca Glasson, recently competed in the Exeter Dance Festival. The 9-day festival has been encouraging and celebrating young dancers for more than 40 years. Rebecca performed brilliantly in the early rounds and managed to qualify for the junior modern championship final, which she went on to win! Rebecca was presented with a cup, plaque, flowers and £50. Rebecca is an incredibly talented and very focused member of our Performing Arts Academy. You’ll be able to see Rebecca in action during our upcoming production of Aladdin in April. Well done, Rebecca!

England caps

We welcome back 1st team player, Josh Parry, after his international tournament with the England Colleges team in Rome. It was a wonderful experience for him and has given him memories he will remember for a lifetime. We are very proud of what he has achieved this year and are excited for his future.

VX3 Sportswear and Lovell Sport

We are really excited to launch the partnership of VX3 Apparel and Team TA. Our student-athletes will be looking amazing whilst competing in all sports. We are excited by this collaboration and you will see more fantastic work between us very soon.

Photography

A number of our A Level photography students had their work was selected for display in a recent and prestigious art show.  Ana Banica, Lena Hammerle and Klaudia Krupska submitted photographic work to ‘The Southwest Photo Collective’ for display in The Artizan Gallery in Torquay.

The students’ work was displayed alongside professional photographers and BA photography students from Plymouth University. The exhibition was entitled ‘Storytelling’ and the selected work reflected the theme, with our students expressing their ideas, through a number of different techniques and approaches, this was evident in the diverse, individual and creative outcomes. Their teacher, Mrs Lynch, was very proud of their incredible work.  They are all very talented.

Dance lessons

Miss Walkin’s Year 8 have been experimenting with some unusual moves.

Whilst her Year 10s have been working on their core strength and balance.

Young Persons Health Project – Exeter University

This week saw 8 of our hard-working Year 8 and 9 students visit Exeter University as part of our partnership with them. We are working on a research project together looking at Healthy Lifestyles of young people. The students were given input on how to do a research project, had a tour of the facilities and worked on the next steps for the project. We look forward to continuing this project this academic year.

Year 11 PPEs

Year 11 are taking their final set of PPEs before the Summer exam.  Before each PPE students have a briefing as a final preparation.  The students are pictured in their Chemistry briefing in the Platform.

English Mastery Books

Our teachers have authored many books that exclusively produced for the benefit of our own students.  Today the English Mastery books arrived.  These will be used to support our boys and girls in the final run into this summer’s examinations.

Tassomai Trojan

Our Tassomai Trojan award has to go to Mateus Baczynski who has completed 100% of the course. This is an incredible effort and demonstrates very hard work.

Year 10 Parents’ evening

We were delighted to welcome so many students and parents into school on Thursday evening for the Year 10 parents’ evening.  We are very impressed with all of the incredible hard work from so many students.

Mindfulness for exams

To support our Year 11 and 13 students in the run into their exams, Mr Chadwick is running a five-week mindfulness course after school on Thursdays.  This week we welcomed parents as well as students as they were introduced to the basics of mindfulness.

Ofsted

On Wednesday and Thursday this week we welcomed the team of Ofsted inspectors into school.  I was so proud of the entire school community as we were all put under great scrutiny.  I am so proud on occasions such as this when everyone pulls together to show what a special place TA is.  I look forward to sharing the report with you in a few weeks.

Team TA Sports Roundup

Athletics finals

Congratulations to all of our athletes who took part at the Devon Athletics finals at Plymouth Life Centre today.

Year 7 Football

It has been a busy couple of days for our year 7s.  A win in the county cup v Devonport yesterday was followed up by finishing top in the central venue tournament today. I am very proud of how they are doing this year as they continue to improve

Year 9 Football

The Year 9 football team continued the defence of their County Cup title with a solid 4-0 win over Dawlish this week. Goals from Kye Graham (2) Finley Wood and Will Hall saw us run out comfortable winners.

National Quarter Finals

I am very proud of our football education programme who on Wednesday progressed into the quarter finals of the national cup; they will play Sudbury away in the next round. We met them last season and they beat us in the semi final so we will relish the opportunity to put things right this time #secondchance

Harry and Amari sign for Exeter

Congratulations to Harry Clarke and Amari Hadley who have now signed Academy forms for Exeter City. They have both shown through their trial that they have the potential to do very well and have shown the club and coaches what they have to offer.   The hard work and commitment need to continue and we at TA will help support and develop their game alongside the academy training and games.

Our football programme is growing and improving every year and these success stories are part of what we are helping our players achieve.

Table Tennis

Jakub Piwowar Year 7 took part in the 2020 ITTF World Junior and Cadet Circuit Open Championships in Sweden last week. He performed brilliantly to reach the quarter finals where he was eventually beaten by an older player from Singapore. On his way to the quarter finals he beat players from Norway, Ukraine, Sweden and Germany. This list includes the current Number 6 in Europe whom he beat 3-0. The event was a really positive experience for Jakub and he has come back from it even more determined to succeed on the world stage. Well done Jakub.

Year 12 Girls Leadership Project

In what was a very busy week all around the school, on Thursday, we were visited by David Hill a Paraolympian Triathlete who spend 3 hours working with our Year 12 girls football academy students on leadership style and how to work with students who lack confidence when carrying out physical activity. The girls had a great time, learnt a lot and are now looking forward to putting theory into practice with some of our Year 7 and 8 girls.

Circuit Training

What better way to finish a week than with a circuit training masterclass from Mr Richardson and Mr Jones? The Year 8 boys had great fun putting in phenomenal levels of effort to improve their cardiorespiratory and muscular fitness on Friday morning in the Platform.

Sporting Achievements Outside of School

It is always great to hear of our students performing well on the sporting front outside of school.  Grace and Jazz Povey in Year 8 are certainly examples of this. Jazz plays for Torquay United Under 13 girls at football and has been earning rave reviews and being awarded Girl of the game in her recent game against Buckland Athletic. On the same day Jazz then travelled to Plymouth and met up with her twin sister Grace to compete in the Devon Indoor Sports Hall Athletics event.  Whilst there were no medals to show off this time around they did produce personal bests in some of the events, incredible when you consider Jazz had played a full game of football earlier that day. They now look forward to Grace competing at Stover this weekend in the final Western League Cross Country of the season. In addition to all of this, both girls managed to finished in the top 6 of the Year 8 effort boards for cycle 2. Amazing work girls keep going.

Hannah Runs Again!

Saturday evening was the final Wildnightrun race of the 2019/20 series. The trail course at Leigh Court, Bristol had been hampered by the recent weather and gained extra patches of bog & mud! Hannah fought round the 5K course to claim 4th female finisher & 2nd female in the 5K series points tally this season. Roll on the Spring for track & field fun!
