Listen

Year 9 Cadets Kit Issue

The Year 9 Cadets had their first form up when their new kit was issued to each of them.  Here are the before and after photos!  They all look very smart!

Amazing Art

Every now and then I get to witness something quite brilliant. Mr Haring came to see me on Thursday with this drawing by Bradlee Tarrant in Year 9. I had already caught up with Bradlee earlier this week when he shared a self-portrait that he had done during lockdown. He is brilliant!

Performing Arts Academy

Our Year 11 girls are preparing in the hope that we will be able to put on a great show at the end of this academic year. Here is their first full run through of Six.

Football Academy returns

Mr Hogg was delighted to be able to have training back on this week after a mix of online and face to face training.

Table Tennis Academy returns

Mrs Piwowar was very pleased with how her students in our Table Tennis Academy developed during lockdown thanks to the efforts which included weekly online sessions.

Apprentice Music Technician

Year 9 student, Robin Pightling, begun his voluntary work in the music department this week, as part of his DofE award. Robin, who studies both music performance and music technology, said, ‘I have been looking for some voluntary work to do for my DofE and I came up with the idea of re-stringing and maintaining the guitars and basses in the music department. I have quite a bit of experience working with and maintaining guitars having stripped down and completely rebuilt 2 guitars and restringing my own and friend’s guitars countless times.’ Needless to say, the Music Department is delighted to have Robin on board and say his help will make a significant contribution to the day to day running of the department. They tell me in his first hour he restrung no less than 4 guitars! Keep up the great work, Robin.

Fun Friday!

Fun Friday this week included Bingo, doughnuts, hot chocolate and a scavenger hunt!

Focaccia and Hummus

The Hospitality and Catering students have been producing some dishes from around the world with a real emphasis on creativity and presentation. The hummus and focaccia bread has been really successful with years nine and ten and I was very impressed by their ability to focus on taking a real pride in julienning vegetables – wonderful skills demonstrated. Well done!

Year 7 science

Mr Webber’s class have been looking at how lungs function this week.  Here is Mr Webber showing how the lungs expands when air is pushed in to them.

Year 8 Maths

Joe Hosking, in 8T8, modelled his response to a challenging angle-related question incorporating algebra. The class really enjoyed his input and mathematical reasoning. Well done Joe.

Sixth Form guidance meetings

Over the past couple of weeks, our Sixth Form team have been meeting with our Years 11 students to discuss their A level options choices.  They have been very impressed with their mindset and focus upon achieving the best GCSE results they can prior to starting Year 12 in September.
