Block bots, delicious food and concert highlights

Listen

Christmas Concert highlights

In addition to the brilliant video of this wonderful event, below you can see another video capturing the highlights of the evening.

House News

Our third inter-house competition is currently well underway, with the first two heats having been completed at the time of writing. On this occasion we are holding a version of the game show Countdown with which many of our readers will be familiar. Countdown involves: selecting a number of unseen vowels and consonants in the attempt of creating a nine- letter word, creating a large target number from a series of randomly selected smaller numbers and solving a nine-letter anagram.

In the heats so far, Kitson beat Darwin and Brunel knocked out Nearne in the last round! Harrison, Pengelly, Fawcett and Christie will be playing later this week.

It has been wonderful seeing the co-operation of teams as they work together and the tremendous level of support from their house members.  As always, there will be prizes for the overall team members but the real reward will be the holding of the house cup which will be decked out in the colours of the winning house and proudly displayed in the assigned tutor classroom.

Year 9 Food Tech Assessments

The Hospitality and Catering students in year 9 have worked very hard this week on their practical assessment. They had to focus on three areas: presentation, pastry and knife skills. In the process, from preparation through to presentation, each student demonstrated all three of our values: pride, hard work and integrity. I was very impressed by the result and a big well done to our year 9! Year 10 have also shown us how committed they are in their practical food lessons. They were very proud of their accomplishments and so are we, ice cream and beautifully presented brownies!  A great practical assessment.

Brilliant Block Bots!

There have been some very impressive block bots leaving the Enterprise corridors recently to go home and be used as desk tidies. The creativity shown by students in their Design & Technology lessons is just wonderful with so many different variations on the topic this year. Take a look at these pictures and you’ll see some great details on characters from the worlds of sport, cartoons, film and the animal kingdom. Well done, Year 8!

Fun Friday

Today students had to ‘Find Mr Margetts’ in the picture above.  Students worked together to see which team could find me first

You can see the answer below (I would like to clarify this is thanks to Miss Maw’s Photoshop skills!)

Skye Warner, Emily Tucker, Evie Sutton and Cameron Sengupta celebrate success!!

Miss Foster’s Year 8 Chemistry

The students in Year 8 have been learning about Chemistry in our World for the past cycle. They have worked incredibly hard all cycle, and this culminated into some really effective revision and practical lessons – including making our own copper sulphate crystals!  Today, they completed their end-of-cycle assessment and the results reflect their dedication in lessons. Every single student scored exceptionally better compared to their first Year 8 assessment which shows their improvements. Our top scorer was Amara Phillips scoring an impressive 92%! Congratulations.  Now it’s time for them to rest up this weekend before the class move on to their next topic – Physics.

Year 11 Dance

This week in Miss Felton’s Y11 Dance class the students have been developing their performance for their exam unit within the course. The students were provided with a brief and a set stimulus in which they must respond to and produce a performance. In the pictures you can see Lizzy, Emilie and Liv practising their choreography for their performance.

Year 8 vs Stoke Dameral

The new changing room worked its magic again for the Year 8s as they took the lead after 30 seconds. A through ball from Seth Margetts put through Charlie Green for the first of his six (yes, 6!) goals in an emphatic 9 – 0 victory over Stoke Dameral School, Plymouth. Toby Lee scored two, including a sweet long-range goal, and Albie Baker got one

It was a brilliant team performance and they can look forward to the next round of the Devon Cup now.

Player Names: Diego Zulhayir, Liam Woodward, Austin White, Toby Lee, Bastian Johns-Kouadio, Harrison Hogg, Seth Margetts, Sam Alcock, Colby Britton, Charlie Porter, Albie Baker, Charlie Green, Thomas Thorner, Gregg Hindom, Joe Taylor

Boys U13 and U15 Boys Cricket

This week saw the return of the indoor cricket tournament at Paignton hub. After a long absence it was a welcome chance for the boys to compete against neighbouring schools with a chance to progress through to the county finals at stake. On a very cold day both teams performed well with the U15s progressing through to the finals in Exeter and unfortunately the U13s just missed out on qualification by a countback of runs scored and missed out by only six runs. It was great to see students playing competitive cricket again and for some of them it was their first taste of cricket ever. A great day out, the boys behaved impeccably and performed outstandingly well. Hopefully as the weather improves into the summer months cricket will continue to grow. Cricket Academy continues each Wednesday after school, please speak to Mr Richardson if you are interested.

Player Names:
U13s: Charlie Porter, Tom Thorner, Albie Baker, Bastian Johns-Kouadio, Seth Margetts, Nick Heale (yr7), Ollie Payne (yr7) and Riley Calland (yr7)
U15s: Jack Alcock, Josh Thompson, Will Green, Gabriel Prior, Owen Woodcock, Will Hemus, Danny Frankum, Elliot Lawton (yr9)

Netball Academy Video Analysis

After a successful week of netball fixtures, the Year 8 netball academy had their first video analysis session in the brand new TA changing room with Miss Lewis and Mrs Tully. The girls were really excited to reflect on their performances using the Veo camera footage and are looking forward to using these facilities to develop and improve in readiness for their upcoming fixtures.

Hannah’s success continues…

On Sunday, Hannah competed in the latest Sportshall Athletics meet at the Life Centre, Plymouth.  Hannah achieved 3 personal bests in shot, standing triple jump & 2 lap hurdles.  Accruing points for their placings, Hannah & her twin sister achieved gold for South Devon Athletic Club U15 girls category. 8 athletic clubs attended.  Great effort, Hannah.
