Team TA Sports Roundup

It is well documented that sport can be cruel but also teach us a lot about life and yourself. This week has been no exception to this at Team TA. Matches were won, matches were lost at times the going got tough and at times it was fairly comfortable. Our Year 7 ‘B’ and ‘C’ Netball Squad had two excellent wins against TGGS on Monday only to come unstuck against PCSC on Tuesday. Our Sixth Form 3rd team reversed the result of a fixture earlier in the season this Wednesday when they beat PCSC 8-2 at home in the Colleges league, in rather different and at times uncomfortable surroundings our 1st XI lost 3-2 to Yeovil College on the same day. On Thursday our Year 8 boys travelled to Crediton in the Devon Cup only to come unstuck 2-1, the boys were very unfortunate to say the least not to be awarded two penalties in the game which would have probably put a different angle on the result. Our year 7 girls played in their central venue league netball on Thursday and frustratingly won 1 and lost 3, frustrating in so much as all of the games they lost they could have so easily won but for some minor mistakes a crucial times, however credit to the teams that beat them on the day as they played the games in the same excellent spirit that our girls did. All in all a busy, frustrating week. We may not have won many of the matches but we can certainly hold our heads up high as our attitude and discipline was excellent in all games no matter what we came up against. Performance of the week has to go to the Sixth Form 3rd XI, well done boys.

Netball

We had our first fixture of the new year against TGGS Monday 8th January. Both schools were able to field two teams and the game was home at TA.

Both teams played well against TGGS although were finding it difficult to get the ball in the net during the first quarter. Both teams managed to score one goal before the quarter time whistle. With changes being made every quarter we had two very versatile teams and both were able to deal with the changes made during quarter time and still press on by score more goals. Team 1 final score was 6-3 to TA. Team 2 final score was 4-2 to TA. We were extremely pleased to get two wins and we look forward to having the opportunity to play them again.
Miss Brown’s players of match were Darcie Baker and Hannah Moxhay.

Year 7 A team Netball Tournament

The girls were excited to take part in the Central Venue tournament at Paignton Community College on Thursday 11th of January.

Up first, the team played St Cuthbert Mayne. The game began with a goal to Cuthbert but the girls were fighting hard with Ella Sandbrook turning over numerous balls. Half time came, and the team were down 2-0. A slight shuffle of positions saw Lola Green come on to WD but unfortunately Cuthbert capitalised on all of our errors and the game finished 4-0 to Cuthbert.

Next up was Coombeshead. The girls began to gain confidence as a goal went in. Lilyella Monk and Maddie Harvey were feeding the ball brilliantly into the D which then led to 3 more goals throughout the game. The defence was consistent which meant that Coombeshead only managed to score 2 goals, leaving the team with a 4-2 victory.

Next up were Kingsbridge. Team TA were up 2-0 with a goal from both Elisha Perrow and Izzy Watkins but Kingsbridge managed to bring the score back to 2-2 after a few unforced errors from the team. There was 10 seconds left in the game but a penalty shot was awarded to Kingsbridge and they were able to convert. Undeservingly Team TA lost 3-2 but the game showed great character and fight until the final whistle.

Churston 4-2 lost

The final game came around and the girls all still had positive attitudes and were ready to play their hardest. Churston stormed into the led but a great turn over from Zoe Manley meant that our shooters were able to equalise. Churston scored again and with a few minutes to go the score was now at 3-1 to Churston. The final few minutes saw great commitment and determination from the team but unfortunately Churston scored again. We responded with another goal after a great feed from Lily Lee but it was too late for a comeback. The final score Churston 4, Team TA 2.

The team worked well and had positive attitudes throughout. We have found things to work in training so the girls are ready for some hard work.

Athletics Success

Harvey Bates competed for the first time at the South West England Indoor Athletics competition held at Cardiff Met. He has been very nervous about it as he has been there to watch others compete many times before and knows how high the standard can be. He surprised everyone by achieving a personal best performance in both of his events (the 800m and long jump).  In the 800m he improved by a massive 10 seconds achieving a new time of 3mins 8 seconds.    His goal for this year now is to come under 3 minutes which I believe having watched him run  is very achievable.  Harvey still has until the end of Year 9 to achieve the county standard of 2:15 so he has now well and truly showed the dedication and determination needed to achieve that.

Also, Emma Harrison in Year 8 ran brilliantly too.  She just narrowly missed matching her 800m pb by less than half a second but still achieved a good time of 2 minutes 44 seconds.

In addition, Harvey has been shortlisted  for his outstanding recycling efforts by Recycle Devon and will be attending a ceremony to award the winner – well done indeed !!

Taekwondo

Tomas Parry picked up an award for outstanding dedication in Taekwondo. Well done, Tomas. He is working very hard towards getting his black belt and his dedication definitely shows all the time.

In December Kacy Fairhurst graded and went from red tag to red belt, a brilliant grading shown by Kacy. Also for the taekwondo awards ceremony Kacy was awarded a certificate and trophy for having the best attitude, Kacy carries this attitude across her Taekwondo and school and always smiles. Well done Kacy

Violin success

Dylan Weatherburn-Bird passed his Level 1 Violin this week which is a great achievement.  Dylan said that he had to perform three songs and then five lots of scales, and then he was done.  Well done, Dylan, a great achievement.
