U19 Netball  crowned 2nd in the country

In a remarkable display of skill and determination, TA netball academy have achieved an impressive success by finishing as the runners-up in the National SIS Bowl competition. Their journey to the finals was marked by both triumphs and setbacks, but their perseverance throughout the tournament was undeniable.

In the semi-final, TA emerged victorious with a hard-fought 16-11 win against St Mary’s, showcasing a blend of tactical brilliance and individual skill. The team’s defense through court stood strong, limiting their opponents’ chances and securing the narrow lead. The semi-final victory was a testament to the team's ability to rise to the occasion with impeccable shooting, perseverance and performance under pressure, earning them a well-deserved spot in the final.

However, the final match proved to be a more challenging contest. Facing a formidable opponent in Wycombe, TA fought valiantly but ultimately succumbed to a 24-14 loss. Despite their best efforts, the team struggled to maintain the same discipline and offensive rhythm they had displayed earlier in the tournament. Nevertheless, their runners-up finish was a remarkable achievement, reflecting their talent and resilience.

TA’s performance in the National SIS Bowl was a testament to their growth and teamwork throughout the competition. Although they didn’t win the final, their journey to second place served as a source of pride, and their performance left a lasting impression on all who witnessed their success.

Pro:Direct Football partnership

We are excited to announce our new partnership with the Pro:direct Academy, which is at the forefront of football education. Through our collaboration, we’ve created a unique pathway for our players that includes expert coaching and regular exposure to scouts and club representatives. What really sets this apart, is the Pro:direct 11 – a showcase event where our top-performing players are selected to represent the academy in front of professional scouts, coaches, and decision-makers from top football clubs across the UK.

We have already had two players selected for this squad and played at Tottenham Hotspur’s training ground against their U18s. Events like this will provide some of our students with opportunities to be scouted and offered trials with Premier League, Championship, and League One clubs. It is a major opportunity for any player looking to make the leap into professional football.

Additionally, Pro:direct Academy offers professional-standard training camps, workshops with professional players, brand awareness opportunities such as boot launches. There is also significant match exposure, allowing our students to refine their skills in a competitive environment and we will regularly arrange matches against fellow Pro:direct academies from around the UK, ensuring that our players are continually tested at the highest level.

With our top-tier coaching and Pro:direct’s support, resources, and opportunities, our students will receive the best footballing education possible, all while being supported by our experienced coaching team. PD also have a strong partnership with FirstPoint USA, an organisation that specialises in securing sports scholarships to universities in the United States, which means that if our students want to pursue football alongside their academic studies, they’ll have a clear and supported route to the US universities that offer scholarships to players.

Lego Robotics Regional Finals

Our two robotics teams travelled to Exeter on 28th March to take part in the First Lego League robotics competition with the theme of 'Submerged' for 2025. Students had to complete against schools from around the region in a series of challenges on the Lego mat and present a research project based around exploring and protecting ocean habitats. Their robots had to be designed, coded and engineered to solve a variety of Lego model problems including finding whales using radar, protecting coral reefs, tagging sharks and retrieving submarines!

Poppy, Ivan, Rhian, George and Matthew (as Team TA#1) performed solidly throughout and whilst they tried to utilise all their experience from previously successful campaigns, were unable to fulfil their true scoring potential. Colby, Zack, Charlie, Luca, Liv and Riley (as the Ocean Team) consistently scored highly in the robot mat challenge and were in second place by lunchtime. Unfortunately, a loose cable caused mayhem with the robot in their last mat run putting them out of contention. The video of their most successful mat attempt is an excellent example of just how impressively the teams performed showing the core values of First Lego League and earned them the 'Rising All-stars' Lego trophy.

Students dedicated so much of their spare time to preparing for this competition and they are already planning how to be even more successful in the competition next year!

Our Years 7, 11 and 6th Form had their year group photos in the sun.  It is incredible just how fast the years go by...

CCF Cadet Training Report

This Wednesday’s cadet evening was a momentous occasion as the contingent came together for a special parade to celebrate the achievements of our cadets.

The highlight of the evening was the recognition of our Year 8 cadets, who proudly received their Basic Cadet Star and beret. This significant milestone marked their dedication and hard work in successfully completing the CCF Basic Star training.

In addition, our Year 9 and 10 cadets celebrated their own successes, having completed the rigorous CCF 2 Star training. Their achievements were further rewarded with well-deserved promotions, acknowledging their commitment and leadership within the contingent.

The Parents' Evening was formally opened by an address from the Contingent Commander, who welcomed guests and highlighted the growth and achievements of the cadets over the past year. Following this, the OC Army provided an insightful update on the syllabus training, outlining the progress made and future training objectives.

With the formal addresses concluded, the spotlight shifted to the cadets themselves. The senior cadets confidently took the stage, sharing their personal journeys and experiences within the CCF, offering inspiration to their peers and families.

The parade was then handed over to the senior RAF cadet, who led the contingent with precision, marching the cadets onto the platform for a final drill parade. The momentous occasion concluded with the official presentation of berets, a proud and memorable achievement for all involved.

A huge congratulations to all cadets for their hard work and success, and a sincere thank you to the staff and families for their continued support. We look forward to more milestones and achievements in the future!

Year 11 Dance Exam

On Wednesday, the Year 11 dancers took part in their dance exam. This consisted of 7 minutes of choreography, followed by a written exam.  Miss Walklin was incredibly proud of every single one of the girls. All four groups performed brilliantly; each one of them was incredible as the next. The hard work has paid off, well done girls!

Exercise Senior Stretch 2025

On Friday the 28th of March 7 cadets took part in Exercise Senior Stretch 2025.  Senior Stretch is run by Plymouth College CCF to test older cadets and ensure they are ready for promotion and this was our second year taking part and providing staff to assist in the running on the exercise.

The exercise saw cadets arriving at Gutter Tor Refuge to establish and hold a FOB (forward operating base) in the fictional country of Dartmonia.  They integrated into 2 sections with cadets from Plymouth College CCF and both groups were soon working well together and getting to know each other.

With a lack of rain and good conditions the cadets set up their bashas, sorted their equipment and received orders for a clearance patrol to sweep nearby ground for any enemy presence.

Leaving as the sun was setting the cadets had to navigate across Dartmoor in the dark, arriving at their LUP (laying up point) to monitor any enemy movement before heading back to base.  On arrival at back at the FOB the enemy staged a hit and run attack which the cadets swiftly repulsed before maintaining security for the remainder of the evening.

Saturday Morning saw the cadets conducting more clearance patrols with a similar outcome, the enemy once again hiding and then attempting a hit and run attack on the base but making the mistake of clearly showing the direction they had retreated in.  Snap orders were issued to both sections and after rehearsals the cadets the mounted two fighting patrols with the intention of locating and neutralising the enemy positions.

The patrols were led by our own Cdt Jacob Crago-Gould and Cdt Indy Evans, both of whom rose to the occasion and organized and led attacks on the enemy positions.  This was especially challenging as both of their sections contained cadets they had not worked with before Friday.  Both attacks were successful with rapid assaults leading to a swift conclusion to the patrols.

Mission completed, both patrols returned to base and the exercise was ended.  All of the cadets worked hard and succeeded in what were at times difficult tasks requiring focus, confidence and teamwork.

Thanks are due to Sgt Keenan who volunteered to assist with the exercise and Maj. Butterworth and his team from Plymouth College CCF for inviting us back for the second year.

romeo and juliet

Year 7 and 8 were treated to a live action performance of Romeo and Juliet last week, when Box Clever theatre company visited us again.  This is the third time they have been to TA and their performances never fail to disappoint.  Full of energy, music, interactivity and laughter, students were left with a renewed understanding of the play and its key themes.

House basketball

Over the past two weeks, students in Year 7 have been competing in the inter-house basketball competition. The tournament has consisted of 12 players from each house taking a shot through a basketball hoop -from a set distance.

As with every competition, students are always enthusiastic and anxious to participate to bring victory to their houses. Tutors have a difficult job selecting players as so many students always wish to participate.

Each house competed in heats attempting to knock other houses out to reach the final.

Ultimately, Harrison faced Pengelly in the final match. All players were nervous and all players tried their best. Despite the valiant efforts of the Harrison team, once again Pengelly emerged victorious- with an impressive four goals.

The house cup once again resides in Mrs Lancaster’s tutorial room; Pengelly is a very proud winner, and Mr Chadwick, head of the house, is delighted.

happy easter!

Every member of staff and student were given an Easter egg today.  Having 1,650 Easter eggs in my office for the past week has been very tempting...!  I had help from the Easter Bunny (and Easter Dog!) to help deliver the eggs on Friday morning.

year 8 Netball

Our Year 8 Netball Academy took to the court in Paignton for the Year 8 League Playoffs on Tuesday.

Following an undefeated  succession of league matches since Chrirstmas, the A Team qualified for the Cup Competition.  The team ended their season on a high,  with strength and precision on court, demonstrating outstanding resilience and skill during the tournament.  They  battled through tough competition and secured a credible 3rd place finish in the Cup Competition.

The B Team also dominated in the Plate Competition and finished in an impressive 2nd place overall!  This success was largely down to the remarkable teamwork and determination of the squad, who supported each other to play some fantastic netball, demonstrating their vast improvement,  and only conceding one match all day!

We are so proud of your hard work and unwavering commitment throughout this season.  Your dedication, teamwork and perseverance have truly paid off, and you have shown tremendous growth both individually and as a team!  Keep up the good work, well done girls!

Year 9 through to yet another Semi-Final

On Tuesday the boy’s year 9 team made it through to the semi finals of the Torbay and District Cup.  The performance against Spires was less than convincing.  However, the team showed resilience and determination to get the job done.  The final score was 3-2 to TA with the goals coming from Jamie, Tully, Sonny Cayford and Alex Moss.  The team will now have time to rest up and recover before their big Devon Cup semi – final against Braunton after Easter.  This break comes at the right time for the team following a number of competitive games in a short space of time and players to overcome niggling little injuries.

House Competitions

This week all of the boys and girls from Y7-9 participated in house competitions! The boys played football on the astroturf whilst the girls competed in Benchball.

The PE team were so impressed with all of the students, who demonstrated an abundance of hard work, integrity and pride It was fantastic to see all of the students proudly wearing their PE kit, and the levels of behaviour and engagement from them was incredible.
