RELATIONSHIPS AND SEX EDUCATION

At Torquay Academy, we promote personal wellbeing and development through a comprehensive Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education programme. PSHE education is the curriculum subject that gives young people the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and practical skills to live safe, healthy, productive lives and meet their full potential. We provide PSHE on 3 dedicated days across the school year, in addition to that covered in other lessons and during assemblies.

RSE lessons will include teaching about: Healthy relationships, including friendships and intimate relationships; families; growing and changing, including puberty; personal hygiene; changing feelings; becoming more independent; keeping safe and consent; developing self-esteem and confidence. Pupils will also have opportunities to ask questions that help prepare them for relationships of all kinds in the modern world.

PSHE education is taught to fulfil the schools legal requirement, using age appropriate material that leads to a spiral curriculum across the years. We use guidance from the PSHE association to ensure we provide the best possible content.

The topics covered across KS3 and 4 are given below, depending on visitors, theatre groups etc some material may move between year groups, but we will still intend to cover the content below.  Year 11 students have their PSHE days focussed on choices after year 11 and curriculum content.  For more information please email Miss Martin.
