ENGINEERING WITH AUTOMOTIVE CURRICULUM
OVERVIEW OF KEY STAGE 4 CURRICULUM
Course Title: GCSE Engineering
Examining Body: AQA

What will I study?
Our course tours you through an automotive foundation where you will learn how many parts of a car work, then onto traditional engineering skills before delving into electronics, programming, Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Computer Aided Manufacture (CAM).
How and when will I be assessed?
40% coursework - one 40 hour controlled assessment (coursework completed from 1st June in Y10 until 1st March in Y11)
60% exam - sat in summer of Y11

This course provides you with the knowledge and skills that could be developed further in the A Level subjects Product Design, Maths and Physics.

CAREERS INFORMATION
If you enjoy automotive engineering you might consider one of these job roles:
- Designer - Work as part of a team to develop either individual compoents, vehicle models or entire ranges or cars. Approx. salary: £25-51,000.
- Motorsport Engineer - Develop and maintain competition vehicles in a plethora of categories from motorbikes to exotic endurance prototypes. Approx. salary: £28-45,000.
- Master Technician - Diagnose the complex faults that others cannot conquer and coordinate the training of a team of technicians. Approx. salary £27-60,000.
EXTRACURRICULAR OPPORTUNITIES
Be part of the Greenpower Team (alongside Product Design students) and compete in the Greenpower International Formula 24 electric car racing finals at race tracks including Goodwood, Castle Combe and Silverstone.
